π₯ LIGHT & FLUFFY "SPINNERS" (DUMPLINGS) π₯
π± OVERVIEW
Total Time: 10 Minutes (Prep) + 15 Minutes (Cooking)
Yield: 12 to 15 Dumplings
π οΈ THE KIT
π₯£ 1 Medium mixing bowl
π₯ 1 Large spoon (for initial mixing)
πΉ 1 Clean surface (your cutting board or counter)
𧀠1 Oven mitt
π THE INGREDIENTS
πΎ All-Purpose Flour 1 cup (unbleached)
π§ Sea Salt 1/2 teaspoon
π¬ Sugar 1/2 teaspoon (optional, to balance the savory broth)
π§ Cold Water 1/3 to 1/2 cup (Add slowly!)
π½ Optional: 1 tablespoon of Cornmeal (for a nice "bite" and golden color)
π¨βπ³ THE METHOD
Step 1: The Dough
π₯£ In your Medium bowl, whisk together the Flour, Salt, Sugar, and Cornmeal.
π§ Make a small hole (a "well") in the middle. Pour in half of the Water.
π₯ Use your Large spoon to stir. Slowly add more water, one tablespoon at a time, until the flour starts to stick together into a ball.
π€² Once it forms a ball, use your hands to gently knead it 3 or 4 times just until it's smooth.
Safety Tip: Stop kneading as soon as it looks like a ball. Over-mixing makes the dumplings hard!
Step 2: Shaping the Spinners
π€ Pinch off a piece of dough about the size of a Large marble or a walnut.
π€² Place the dough between your palms. Rub your hands back and forth to create a long, thin "cigar" shape (about 3 inches long).
Note: These are called Spinners because they spin in the boiling pot!
Step 3: The Cook
π₯ Open the lid of your bubbling Beef Stew.
π₯ Drop the Spinners directly into the liquid. They will sink to the bottom at firstβdon't worry!
β²οΈ Put the lid back on and let them cook for 15 Minutes.
β¨ You will know they are ready when they float to the surface. This means they have trapped enough steam to become light and airy.
π Turn the stove dial to the Off position.
π‘οΈ SAFETY FIRST
π₯ No Splashing: When dropping the dumplings into the stew, stay close to the liquid surface so they don't "splash" hot broth on your arms. Use an Oven mitt to hold the lid.
π¦· Check the Center: For a toddler or senior, cut one dumpling in half. It should be white and fluffy all the way through, not "doughy" or wet in the middle.
𧀠Steam Release: Always lift the lid away from your face when checking if the dumplings are floating.
