STEAM-ROASTED VEGETABLES

🥕 STEAM-ROASTED VEGETABLES 🥕

Soft, flavorful, and alkaline-friendly. Designed to prevent "dry-out" and ensure easy swallowing.

🛠️ THE KIT

  • 🥘 1 Large rimmed baking sheet

  • 📜 Parchment paper (optional, for easy cleanup)

  • 🛸 Heavy-duty Aluminum Foil (to create the steam seal)

  • 🍴 1 Fork (for piercing and testing)

  • 🥣 1 Small bowl (for the sweet potato mash)

🛒 THE INGREDIENTS

  • 🥕 Carrots 2 large (peeled and cut into sticks)

  • 🥦 Cauliflower 1 small head (cut into bite-sized florets)

  • 🍠 Sweet Potato 1 medium (whole)

  • 🏺 Extra Virgin Olive Oil 2 tablespoons

  • 💧 Filtered Water 1/4 cup

  • 🧂 Optional: A pinch of garlic powder or nutritional yeast for savory flavor.

👨‍🍳 THE METHOD

1. The Steam-Roast Setup (Carrots & Cauliflower)

  1. 🔥 Preheat: Set your oven to 200°C (400°F).

  2. 🍱 Arrange: Place the Carrots and Cauliflower on the rimmed baking sheet. Drizzle with Olive Oil and toss to coat.

  3. 💧 The Moisture Key: Pour 1/4 cup of Water directly onto the bottom of the pan.

  4. 🛸 The Foil Seal: Cover the entire pan tightly with Aluminum Foil. Ensure the edges are crimped shut to trap the steam.

  5. ⏲️ Roast: Place in the oven for 15–20 Minutes. The steam will soften the internal fibers of the vegetables.

  6. The Finish: Remove the foil and roast for an additional 5–8 Minutes. This allows the water to evaporate and a slight, soft golden "roast" flavor to develop without drying the centers.

2. The Whole-Roasted Sweet Potato

  1. 🍴 Pierce: While the other veggies roast, use a Fork to pierce the Sweet Potato 5–6 times.

  2. ⏲️ Cook: Place the potato directly on the oven rack (or beside the pan). Bake for 45–50 Minutes until it feels soft when squeezed with an oven mitt.

  3. 🥣 The Scoop: Once cool enough to handle, slice the potato open and scoop out the soft, custard-like interior. Discard the skin, which can be a choking hazard for toddlers.

🛡️ PEDIATRIC SAFETY FIRST

  • 🥕 The Snap Test: A properly steam-roasted carrot should have no "snap" or "crunch." It should mash flat when pressed with a fork.

  • 🍠 Sweet Potato Consistency: If the scooped-out sweet potato feels too thick or "sticky," stir in a teaspoon of Coconut Oil or Almond Milk to create a smoother, safer puree.

  • 🦷 Gum Safety: Cauliflower florets should be cut small enough that the "stem" part is no thicker than a pencil. This ensures the toddler can gum through the entire piece easily.
